The Approach
How a family session works
The best family photographs don't come from asking everyone to look at the camera and smile. They come from letting your family be your family — playing, teasing, holding, laughing — while I quietly compose around it.
Sessions happen wherever your family feels most at ease: a favorite park, your own backyard, your living room on a Sunday morning, or the studio. Golden hour light is beautiful, but so is the chaos of home.
Kids don't have to perform. Some of my favorite images are of the in-between moments — a piggyback ride, a whispered secret, a toddler mid-sprint. Your job is to show up and be together. Mine is to see it.

Where do family sessions take place?
Wherever your family is most yourselves — a park or natural area around Cedar Rapids, your home, or the studio. I'm happy to suggest locations based on the season and the feel you're after.
What's the best time for a session?
Outdoors, the hour before sunset gives the softest light. With young kids, though, a happy, well-rested child beats perfect light every time — morning sessions are great for toddlers, and the studio works any time of day.
What should we wear?
Comfortable clothes that feel like you, in colors that sit well together without matching. After booking I'll send a short style guide — and I'm always glad to look over outfit photos beforehand.
What if my kids won't cooperate?
They don't have to. Wiggles, tears, and wild energy are part of family life, and some of the best images come out of exactly that. There's no schedule to fall behind — we follow your kids' lead and the real moments come.
How many images do we get, and when?
A typical session delivers 40–75 fully edited images in a custom online gallery within 2–3 weeks, all full resolution with a print release.
