Jon + Sophie on Captiva Island.

A barefoot ceremony on the gulf, storm light over the water, and two families who flew a thousand miles to stand in the sand together. Destination weddings are why 'available worldwide' is on the front page.

Captiva Island sits off Florida's gulf coast like it was designed for the last hour of light — white sand west-facing beaches, sailboats on the horizon, and weather that builds drama over the water all afternoon.

Jon and Sophie's wedding gave all of it: a ceremony in bare feet, cocktail hour as the storm clouds stacked offshore, and an evening sky that went from silver to gold to violet while we made portraits at the tide line.

Gulf light

West-facing beaches mean the ceremony and sunset portraits share the same sand — no travel, all light.

02

The weather

Coastal storms photograph beautifully. Some of this gallery's best frames exist because of the clouds, not despite them.
